News hit this week that a movie was going to be made in which Robert DeNiro plays the Packer’s legend Vince Lombardi. Almost immediately afterwards, the Vikings began their pursuit of Ladanian Tomlinson. So, when you consider that Brett Favre and Pat Williams are still on the roster, you get the impression that perhaps the Vikings are looking to outdo their divisional foes by having a movie made about them. It would feature old men doing great things that should have been impossible given their age in the tradition of Space Cowboys, Wild Hogs, Old Dogs, and Up. In all seriousness, it is apparent that, despite his age, the Vikings view Ladanian Tomlinson as a temporary upgrade that could help put this team over the top. Furthermore, the risk is minimal given the rules of the uncapped year and the absence of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. But why stop there?

Ladanian Tomlinson does not appear to have arrived at Winter Park as of this posting, despite having a downtown dinner with the Vikings brass last night. Many assumed he would be working out right away this morning. Also, ESPN reports that if the Vikings don’t sign L.T.

The Vikings wined and dined free-agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson on Wednesday night at a steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis with coach Brad Childress and vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman headling a group of team officials that included offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, running backs coach Eric Bieniemy, director of player personnel George Paton and even nose tackle Pat Williams.

The Vikings hosted Ladanian Tomlinson to a fancy dinner at Manny’s Steakhouse in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. Afterwards, Access Vikings beat writer Judd Zulgad caught up with Tomlinson and asked him a number of questions. The first of two major points that L.T. made are that he sounds willing to accept a third-down-back type of role as long as he’s on a team that “feels” right and has Championship potential.

If there were any thoughts about LaDainian Tomlinson taking over the starting Running Back job in Minnesota when he visited with the Vikings today, they should be gone now. Although it’s not yet clear whether the ex-Charger is set to sign with the team yet, there were adamant about what role he’d play in if acquired. With Adrian Peterson still on the roster, L.T.

For the first time, the Vikings have publicly discussed free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s reported visit to Minnesota on Thursday. Star-Tribune beat reporter Judd Zulgad posted a Tweet on Wednesday from Vikings coach Brad Childress on the fact that Tomlinson joining the team would be as a backup to Adrian Peterson. “I would think he knows that, but I always want to over-communicate clarity so we won’t hopscotch around that [topic],” Childress said
